Overview
Interest quotient is a unique Adzuna metric that quantifies, for postings matching your criteria, the level of interest shown by jobseekers on the Adzuna website.
How is interest quotient calculated?
We log the number of clicks received by every posting on the Adzuna website. To calculate interest quotient from this data, we divide the number of clicks received by postings matching your criteria, by the average number of clicks received by all postings for the primary facet in a given time period.
As an example, if we want to know the interest quotient for "Software Developer" postings in North West England, over the past 6 months, we determine the number of clicks received for postings matching these criteria, and divide this by the number postings matching these criteria. We then repeat this process for all postings in North West England over the last 6 months. Finally, we divide the first number by the second to give our interest quotient.
If the interest quotient is greater than 1.0, it means that postings matching your criteria attract more clicks (interest) from jobseekers than average.
In our example above, if the calculated interest quotient is 35.7, this means that postings for Software Developer jobs in North West England over the past 6 months, have attracted 35.7 times the average number of clicks for all postings in North West England, and can be said to be popular with jobseekers.
Why is interest quotient useful?
Interest quotient is useful as it can be used as a proxy for jobseeker supply; jobseekers tend to click on postings for which they are qualified.
By comparing interest quotient with demand figures and location quotient, we can build up a more holistic view of the supply/demand ratio in a labour market.
